Obituary

Agnes Stewart Coit died on September 17, 2014. She was 94 having been born in Fargo, North Dakota on October 16, 1919.
Agnes moved to Ventura in 1959, where she resided continuously until her death.Agnes was the daughter of John David McAndrew who was fifty when he married Margaret Lamont of Ontario, Canada. Agne's father immigrated as a boy with his family from Ontario to the Dakota territory in 1881. The family homesteaded land on the Red River, a few miles north of Fargo, North Dakota, and took up farming. Agnes and her younger brother, James grew up on the farm. They both attended a one room school built on land owned by the family. Their grandfather, also James, trained as a teacher in Scotland before immigrating to Canada from the Highlands as a young man in the 1850's.
Beginning in the 1920's the family began traveling to southern California by automobile in the fall in order to escape the harsh Dakota winters, always returning to the farm in the spring.
In Sierra Madre, California, Agnes met her future husband, Robert D. Coit. They were married in 1943 and are survived by their three children, Robert Lamont Coit and his wife, Barbara; John David Coit and his longtime companion, Iris Anderson; and Margaret Ann Coit Service and her husband Barry Service. Agnes is also survived by her granddaughter Shannon Judd, Shannon's husband Clinton Judd; great-grandchildren, Logan and Sidney Judd; grandson, Dylan Service; brother, James McAndrew, of Fargo, North Dakota; nephew James McAndrew, and his family, also of Fargo; niece, Margaret McAndrew Beasley, and her family, of Abilene, Texas.
Agnes gave her whole life to her family of which she was immensely proud. She was greatly loved in return.
