FALL RIVER…Charley M. Buess, 82, of Westport died Monday, November 29, 2004 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Elsie L. (Roylance) Buess. Born and raised in Pittsburg, Kansas a son of the late Charley E. and Sarah A. (Bates) Buess he had been a resident of Westport since 1945.
He was a graduate of Kansas State Teacher’s College of Pittsburg, KS with a B.S. & M.S. Degrees in Industrial Education. He was a member of Pacific Union Congregational Church in Westport. Mr. Buess retired from the United States Marine Corps after 24 years and 11 months of service. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War where he served two tours. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart from wounds received in the Marshall Islands during WWII.
He was a member of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post #145, life member of D.A.V. #118 and the Cortez Allen Chapter O.E.S. #161 all of Westport. He was also a member of the Azab Grotto-Palestine Temple Shriners of Cranston, RI and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Southeastern MA.
In addition to his widow several nieces and nephews survive him.
He was the brother of the late Dr. John E. Buess.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at the POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.
Calling hours Tuesday 6 – 8 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M. under the direction of Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M., Westport.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport, with military honors.
