Charles Francis Gondola
...retired from Bard Medical, WWII Army Veteran; 85
TEWKSBURY - Charles Francis Gondola, age 85, a veteran of WWII who served during the
Battle of the Bulge, died Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Winchester Hospital following a brief illness.
He was the husband for Maria (Varga) Gondola, with whom he would have celebrated a 48th
wedding anniversary this coming Dec. 31st.
He was born in Somerville, April 3, 1919, a son of the late Charles and Josephine (Albani)
Gondola. He was raised in Somerville and graduated Somerville High School. He had lived in
Tewksbury for the past 37 years.
He entered into the Army during WWII, and served in the 317th infantry, Company F, in Germany
and France. He was a signalman during the Battle of the Bulge, and was proud to have served
under the command of Gen. George Patton.
His earlier work career was with the Teamsters, Local 25, as a truck driver. He later worked for
Honeywell in Brighton, and eventually retired from Bard Medical in Bedford.
He was a member of the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post 8164 in Tewksbury, The D.A.V. Post 110 in
Tewksbury and the Retired Men’s Club of Arlington.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
He is survived by six children, John and his wife Pamela (Budd) Gondola of Tewksbury, Anthony
Gondola of Seattle, WA, Donna and her husband Timothy Sullivan of Somerville, Darleen and her
husband Michael Bonislawski of Cambridge, Richard Gondola of Somerville, Anthony Agresti of
Chelmsford; a son in law, Ronald Murray of Stoneham; a sister, Rose Parilla of Somerville, 16
grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Charles F. Gondola Jr. and Anna Murray; and brother of the late
Raymond Gondola. His Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Dec. 2, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment with Army
Honors was at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Diabetes Assn. Of
Mass., P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160 will be appreciated.
