Obituary

Edmund G. Samra, 84, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully Tuesday September 9, 2014 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence, surrounded by his loving family.
Edmund was born in Boston, MA on March 12, 1930, the youngest of six children to Abraham and Ailiea (Anber) Samra. He was raised in Lawrence and resided in Methuen for most of his life. Edmund was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1948, where he was the captain of the varsity baseball team. He went on to study at Tilton Prep School and graduated from Merrimack College with a degree in business.
Edmund was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954. He played baseball for the U.S. Navy team against Willie Mays and other greats. He later went on to play baseball in the AAA baseball league. Edmund was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and Bruins games. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a parishioner of St. George Orthodox Church in Lawrence, where he sang in the choir. Edmund was gifted with a beautiful baritone and tenor voice and sang at many weddings, musicals and family events.
Edmund owned and operated Samra Paint and Wallcovering in Lawrence for over 40 years, with stores throughout MA and NH.
Edmund will be missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Norma (Richards) Samra, his children, David Samra and his wife Cathy Samra of Newburyport, Charles Samra of Methuen, Andrea Samra of Methuen, Christine Samra of Portsmouth, NH and Alexis Halloran and her husband Fred Halloran of Windham, NH. “Giddo” will also be missed by his beloved grandchildren, David Samra, Nathan Samra, Darren DeLuca, Amanda Samra, Shauna Samra, Charles Samra, Olivia Halloran, Lyndsee Byrnes, Whitney Halloran and Fred Halloran and his precious great-grandson Jameson Samra, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edmund was predeceased by his brother Charles Samra, sisters Virginia (Samra) Aziz, Josephine (Samra) Shiepe, Mary Samra and Rosamund (Samra) Harvey.

Memorial contributions can be made in Edmund’s name to St. George Orthodox Church 8 Lowell St. Lawrence, MA 01841. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Friday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the United Lebanese Cemetery in Andover, MA.
