Obituary

CHICOPEE – Ann M. (Haley) Benson, 84, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, September 5, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in the Borough of Bronx in New York City on July 6, 1930 a beloved daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Taylor) Haley and was raised and schooled in the Bronx. On December 31, 1950, she married her beloved soul mate, George A. Benson, Sr. As the wife of a career United States Air Force military man, she traveled with him on several of his military assignments. Ann and George settled in the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1963 while George was assigned at Westover Air Force Base and they remained residents of Chicopee for the remainder of their lives. She was a member of the Polish American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary. Ann was a wonderful homemaker to her large family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She loved her ten children . She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate of over 63 years, George A. Benson, Sr. who was Called Home on February 20, 2014. She leaves her 10 loving children, George A. Benson, Jr. and his wife, Patsy, of Madison, MS, Brenda Thorne and her husband, Brian, of Phoenix, AZ, John Benson of Chicopee, Paul G. Benson and his wife, Kenda, of Belchertown, Deborah Mykytiuk of Chicopee, Drew Benson of Chicopee, David Benson and his wife, Deborah, of Somerville, SC, Francis E. Benson of Chicopee, Patricia Benson of Chicopee, and Isabelle Knoth and her husband, Wayne, of Sebastian, FL; her 17 cherished grandchildren, many cherished great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Benson and Haley families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her three dear brothers, George, Charles and Frank Haley; her dear sister, Florence Mack; and her dear step-sister, Cecelia. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Service of Committal on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
