Scott Frederick Hamilton, 47, of Mystic, died Thursday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after being stricken while participating in a road race in Mystic.
Scott was born in Worcester on March 1, 1957 the son of Jean Hamilton of Danvers, MA and the late Leland B. Hamilton. Raised in Clinton, MA he was a 1979 graduate of Worcester State College and attended the University of New Hampshire from 1981-1984 where he was awarded his master's degree in Counseling. He later completed his six year certificate in Educational Leadership through Southern CT State University.
He was a popular and respected Guidance Counselor at Stonington High School and was also currently serving as Asst. Director of Adult Education in New London. He was previously employed at Montville High Schools from 1989-2000.
He was also serving on the Technology Committee at Stonington High School and was the school's representative to the Mystic Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Task Force on Underage Drinking and was a Past president and current Membership Secretary of the Connecticut Career, Counseling and Development Association.
Scott was a communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church where he served as Lector. A devoted husband and loving father, he was also an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed silent movies, music, and travel.
In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Mary (Hanlon) Hamilton, his children, David and Deborah Hamilton both at home; his sister, Gail Hamilton of Millis, MA; a nephew and 3 nieces.
Scott's family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, on Wednesday from 5-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Pt. Road, Groton on Thursday at 11am with burial following in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
