Poore, Sr., James P., (95) was reunited with his bride of 67 years, Dorothy, on September 2, 2014. James was born on September 25, 1918 to Beverly "Pop" and Leona Grace Poore. Grace passed in 1935 when James was 16 years old. It then became his role to be the provider for himself, sister Leona (deceased), and Pop (deceased) who was unable to work. He started at Franklin Printing Co. as a bicycle delivery boy and worked his way up to Plant Manager at Fetter Printing Co. He married Dorothy on Halloween in 1940 and they had four children, Joyce Whitehouse (deceased) (Bill), James, Jr. (Carolyn), Michael (deceased), and David (Evelyn). He retired in
1984 and became a neighborhood fixture sitting on his front porch, puffing on his pipe, wearing his favorite blue U.K hat. He was blinded by glaucoma but continued to live alone after Dorothy's death in 2008 until finally moving to Atria Springdale in 2013. He was also preceded in death by two half-sisters, Willia and Anna. In addition to James, Jr. and David, James is survived by seven grandchildren, Bill Jr., Chris (Dana), and Kevin Whitehouse, Denise Logue (Jeff), Richard Poore (Jenny),
Deanna Anderson (Nathan), Kristina Nett (Tim), and 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
James will be missed for his kindness to others, his easy smile, and his love for animals. Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
His family expresses their gratitude to the caring healthcare staff of Atria-Springdale and Meadowview for
caring for "Pops" in his final year.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday at the Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00–6:00 pm Wednesday & 4:00–8:00 pm Thursday.
