Obituary

Mildred Y. Maltais, 84, of Wolf Hill Road, died August 31, 2014 at the Hospice Inpatient Center. She was the wife of Richard D. Maltais. They were married for 61 years.
She was the daughter of the late Henry P. and Yvonne (Thibodeau) Shepard. She was a lifelong resident of Smithfield. She was a teacher for the Smithfield School department, spending most of her career at William Winsor School as a second grade teacher. She retired in 1989.
She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church, the former church organist, a member of the Women's Guild and an advisor for the CYO. She had been a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Retired Teachers Assoc. She had also been the church organist for St. Joseph Church in Ashton and St. Casimir in Providence.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her three daughters: Susan A. Ascoli and her husband, Thomas of Warwick, Linda M. Adams and her husband, James of Scituate and Marilyn J. Murray and her husband, Robert of Westport, MA, her nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Henry P. and William Shepard.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
