Jack A. Hopper, 85, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, died Thursday, November 25, 2004, at South Pittsburg Retirement Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 29, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Hopper was born June 17, 1919, in Eastaboga, Alabama, to the late Earl and Laura Allen Hopper. He moved to South Pittsburg, TN in 1982 from Fitzgerald, where he retired a Locomotive Engineer after thirty-eight years with Atlantic Coastline/CSX Railroad. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Jasper, TN and in Fitzgerald, a former member and deacon of Arbor Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and First Baptist Church, where he was very active and helped with the Wednesday night church suppers. Mr. Hopper was a Mason and a member of the Elks Lodge in Fitzgerald. He loved gardening, singing in the choir and creating ceramics.
Survivors include a daughter: Linda Hopper Kaczmarczyk, Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren: Michelle Katz and Nicole Reynolds; great grandchildren: Christopher Kaczmarczyk, Patrick, Courtney and Emily Reynolds; stepson: Royce Brown, Anderson, SC; step son-in-law: George Oscar Cate, Jr., South Pittsburg, TN; step grandchildren: Janice Cate May, Stephen Todd Cate, Dr. Martin Todd Brown, Lisa Brown D’Ornellas and Julie Brown Walker; step-great-grandchildren: David and Barbara May, Joshua and Rachel D’Ornellas, Haley Christen and Megan Brown; three sisters: Gladys (A.D.) Holmes, Oxford, AL, Claudie (Arthur) Bentley, Birmingham, AL and Mailande Sprayberry, Anniston, AL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Mozelle Pickford Hopper, his second wife, Inez Brown Hopper, brothers, Ray, Lileus, Lester and Johnny Hopper and a step-daughter, Eva Brown Cate.
