Irene Mary Cross, 83, of Gales Ferry died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown CT.
She was married to William A. “Red” Cross Jr. for 59 years. He predeceased her in 2009.
Irene was born on April 9, 1931 In Jamaica Queens, NY, the daughter of John and Irene (Logan) Dollard.
She was employed as a Civil Service Employee at the U.S. Submarine Base Naval Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
She is survived by her children, William A. Cross III of New Haven, Thomas P. Cross(Laura) of Gales Ferry, John R. Cross (Peg) of Durham, and Rita E. VanSteenbergen (Paul) also of Durham as well as 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, James Dollard of Antioch TN and John Dollard (Carole) of Manorville NY as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, August 28, from 5 to 7pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Gales Ferry. Burial will follow in Avery Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard.
