Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Barbara C. (MacDonald) Comeau, 97, died peacefully with her daughters by her side in Gloucester on Saturday, August 23, 2014. She was the wife of the late Alfred J. Comeau, who died in August of 1991.
Born in Gloucester on April 19, 1917, she was the daughter of the late J. Daniel MacDonald and Lillian U. (Gray) MacDonald.
A lifelong resident, Barbara attended Gloucester schools and graduated from Gloucester High School, class of 1934. She worked at W.G. Brown’s department store for many years and later at Gorton’s of Gloucester in the traffic department until retirement.
She was a Mayflower Descendent and Daughter of the American Revolution and a member of the Gloucester Women’s Club. She especially enjoyed drives around the Gloucester shore and loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda J. Comeau and her partner Allan Aldrich of Jackson, NH and D. Sandra (Comeau) Camille and her husband Michael Camille of Monroe, LA; a sister: Lois Cincotta of Rowley; grandsons, Edward Josephson and wife Amy of Sweden, ME and Erik Josephson and wife Tanya of Osterville; a great-grandchild, Triston Josephson of Osterville; nieces, Patricia Gilardi of Gloucester, Cynthia Cincotta of Rowley, Dorothy Foley of Marlborough, CT, Carolyn Cahalane of Hanover and Pamela Webb and husband David of Newbury; nephews, Stephen Whittey and wife Betsy of Gloucester and John Cincotta and wife Laurie of Hampstead, NH; many grandnephews and grandnieces, and dear friends Elizabeth and Mark Scheid of Hamilton. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Philip L. MacDonald; sister, Marjorie J. Whittey; sisters-in law, Grace L. MacDonald and Bertha M. Foley; nephews William Foley and Jamie and Ricky Cincotta; brothers-in law Edward Foley, Russell Whittey and Philip Cincotta; dear friend and godmother of her daughters, Alice M. Lee.
A graveside ceremony will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Friday at 10 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visiting hours.
