John T. Swanton a Needham resident since 1956 died on Monday November 22nd at the Skilled Nursing Facility at North Hill in Needham. He was 81 years old. Born in New Jersey, Mr. Swanton was raised and educated in Woburn. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served throughout World War II. He graduated from Tufts University in 1945 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical engineering. Mr. Swanton worked for most of his career at U.S. Steel Supply, retiring as manager of the reinforcing bar division. He was a member of Norfolk Lodge AF and AM of Needham and Mt. Horeb Lodge in Woburn, and the Scottish Rite Mt. Vernon Royal Arch Chapter. Mr. Swanton was a longtime member of the Christ Episcopal Church. The beloved husband for 50 years of Marjorie Helene (Geerts), he was the dear father of William L. Swanton and Christopher Swanton both of Winchester. Brother of the late William Swanton. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Margaret, Thomas, Nicholas, Richard and Isabella. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday November 30 at 11:00 am at the Christ Episcopal Church 1132 Highland Avenue Needham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
