Charles D. Solbo, 89, of Franklin died August 17 in his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Rose (Nasuti) for the past 67 years.
Born in Walpole, November 3, 1924, the son of the late Albert and Devina (DiTomasso) Solbo, Mr. Solbo was raised in Walpole and had lived in Franklin for the past 68 years.
Mr. Solbo had worked at Bird & Son, Inc. in Walpole for 42 years before retiring as supervisor in the roofing department.
Charlie enjoyed square dancing, and traveling. He was a talented woodworker who remodeled his home and also made beautiful bird cages.
He also enjoyed reunions with member of the Army that the served with during World War II.
Mr. Solbo served in the Army during World War II. He was a tank crewman in the 806th Tank Destroyer Division. He attained the rank of T4 and saw action in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Asiatic Theater Campaign Rbbion with Bronze Service Arrowhead, and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sisters, Shirley Fiorio and Emily Plott of Walpole. He was the brother of the late Emilio, Patsy, Ernest, Peter, Albert Solbo and Christine Chase and Palma Padula.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
