Francis T. Smith, 94, of Litchfield, NH, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the Ridgewood Center in Bedford, NH. He was born on January 4, 1920, the son of the late Eliphelet and Lucinda (Colby) Smith. Mr. Smith was raised in Bow, NH and was a graduate of Central High School in Manchester. He was a resident of Litchfield for the past 72 years and was the owner and operator of Smith’s Garage in Litchfield. He was a long time member of the Litchfield Police and Fire Departments and was a Fire Warden. In his youth, Mr. Smith was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a dog lover, an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being in the outdoors.
He is survived by two daughters, Joanne Giles of Litchfield, and Suzanne Patenaude and her husband, John of Hudson, NH; one son, Michael Smith of Litchfield; eight grandchildren, Christine, Donna, John, Sarah, Theresa, Brian, Daniel and Debora; six great grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron, Amanda, Harvey, Samuel and Ashlynn. He was predeceased by his two wives, Jeanne (Villemure) Smith in 1981 and Hortense (Young) Smith in 1946, as well as his long-time companion Judy Brousseau; his daughter, Elaine Young and his grandson, Thomas.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at the Litchfield Community Church on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Humane Society or charity of one’s choice.
