Mr. Gilberto M. Calhau, 57, died unexpectedly at home on August 9, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Lori (Faulkner) Calhau for with whom he shared twenty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on February 2, 1957 and was the son of the late Jorge and Nicolina (Almas) Calhau. Gilberto came to the United States at the age of 12 and has resided in Medford for many years.
He was employed as a tow truck driver for Road One of Medford and most recently for Rigano's in Malden. He enjoyed playing soccer as a young man and was an avid Boston Bruin's fan. He and his wife, Lori loved to sit and watch the games together. He also had a passion for watching old western movies, listening to music and doing yard work at his home. Gilberto's true love was to spend time with his two young granddaughters and the rest of his family. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Lori, he is survived by his three children, Christopher Hugh Calhau and his girlfriend Blair Baker of Medford, Melissa Ann Calhau of Medford and Kelly Elizabeth Medeiros Calhau of Medford and her boyfriend Kostas Kapotas of Malden; two cherished granddaughters, Jacquelyn Jeanne Calhau and Avery Elizabeth Calhau; six brothers, Antonio Medeiros and his wife, Sara of Malden, Luis Medeiros and his wife, Adlina of Somerville, Mario Medeiros and his wife, Margarita of Somerville, Jose Medeiros and his wife, Margaret of Lynn, Eduardo Calhau and his wife Diane of Methuen and Victor Calhau and his girlfriend, Liz of Lynn; sister-in-law, Donna Close of St. Mary's, PA; step-mother-in-law, Peggy Faulkner of Medford and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Rosa and her husband Jeremias Melo.
A Funeral Service for Gilberto will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014, in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, at 4 PM. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 1 - 4 PM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
