PUNTA GORDA, FL: Douglas G. Crawford, 70, died on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in Bay Pines, Florida following a period of declining health.
He was born in Framingham on May 22, 1944 the son of the late Donald G. Crawford and Harriet R. (McPhee) Crawford.
He was the husband of the late Martha E. (Stratton) Crawford who died on December 13, 2013.
Douglas is survived by his children Donald G. Crawford and his wife Rachel of Hudson, NH and Colleen E. Crawford of Northborough. Grandfather of Emma Crawford of Hudson, NH; Gracelyn Krysa of Northborough and step-grandfather of Kelsey Perrin of Hudson, NH. Brother of Elizabeth M. Porter and her husband David of Natick and Nancy S. Trask Perry of Wayland and the late Donald G. Crawford. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Douglas has been a resident of Punta Gorda, Florida for over 14 years and previously resided in Farmingdale and Dover-Foxcroft, Maine for many years. He spent his formative years in Natick and graduated from Natick High School with the Class of 1962. He served his country as an Airman First Class with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed landscaper in Florida. He was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW both in Maine and Florida. He served for many years as a Past Commander for the Gardner, Maine American Legion and VFW. He loved golfing, yard work and was an accomplished cook for his friends and family. He was a history buff and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States visiting many of the historic sights in our country.
Memorial Visitations will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 4:00 to 6:15 pm followed by a Celebration of his life at 6:30 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland,
Private family interment will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at their convenience.
