Obituary

WEBSTER – Joseph E. Sabaj, 54, of 126 Lake Street, died Saturday, November 20, in UMass/Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, after an illness.

He leaves his beloved mother, Rose M. (Sterczala) Sabaj; a sister, Joanne Carpenter and her husband Ralph of Vernon, CT; a niece, Dr. Michelle Carpenter; a nephew, Mark carpenter; his best friends, Harry and Tracy; and a cousin Richard.

He was born in Webster on August 5, 1950, the son of Charles M. Sabaj, who died in 2000. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1968 and earned his Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Worcester State College in 1972. While at Bartlett, he was a pitcher on the varsity baseball team. He also played in the Webster Little League.

Mr. Sabaj was once a substitute teacher for Webster Schools. He was on the task force committee for the new school in Webster and also on the building committee.

He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica. He was an avid baseball fan, and enjoyed music, especially the blues.

The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 24, in Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A memorial Mass will be held at Saint Joseph Basilica at a later date. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening, November 23, at the funeral home.
