Obituary

Catherine Marie "Kay" (Welch) Cole, of Kingston, born in Dorchester and a long-time resident of Weymouth, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014, at the age of 90.

Catherine lived a long and full life with her husband of 68 years, Edward "Bud" Cole, who preceded her in death in 2012.

Catherine is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen Mazzola and son-in-law Steven of Kingston, and nieces Kathleen Yukishige and husband Yoshi and daughter Meg, Patricia Welch and husband Dan Ryan, and Nancy Welch and partner Michael Bahamonde.

Kay is predeceased by her parents Mary Ellen and Francis X. Welch, sister Joan Evangelista and brother Francis B. Welch.

Catherine grew up in Dorchester and attended Saint Margaret's School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She worked in the bookkeeping and
classified advertising departments at the Boston Globe newspaper, eventually retiring after over 30 years of loyal service to the Globe.

She and her husband travelled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad. Catherine greatly enjoyed reading and the theater, and had a wide range of friends and acquaintances throughout the South Shore. She will be missed by her family and friends, but is now reunited with her husband, Buddy, the light of her life.

Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 PM.

Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston, on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 9:00 AM followed by her funeral Mass at Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow at the Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Elm Street, (Route 80), Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor or Standish Humane Society.
