Obituary

Whitman – Elizabeth L. (Coose) Bergren, 92, a longtime resident of Whitman died Friday August 1 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 47 years to the late Ray A. Bergren.

Born and raised in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Annie (Riddell) Coose and a graduate of Quincy High School.

During her years in Quincy, Betty had worked as a secretary at Quincy City Hall and during World War II she was an active participant in the USO, where she met and fell in love with her husband Ray.

Betty had been a resident of Whitman for over 50 years and a familiar face to many as she had worked for several years as a secretary at the Whitman Junior High School and later at Massasoit Community College.

She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed sewing, but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her loving family, friends and neighbors.

She is survived by her daughters Cynthia White and her husband Jeffery of Taunton and Laurie Penardi and her husband Arthur of East Bridgewater, her grandchildren whom she adored Zachariah, Bethany and Lucas White and Matthew and Alyssa Penardi. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Fiske and Margaret Joyce.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday August 6 at 10 AM in Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday August 5 from 4-8 PM.
