BARDHI, Idriz on July 26, 2014. A man of diverse passions, began his dynamic journey at the University of Leipzig in Germany. His studies were dedicated to music, specifically the clarinet. Due to a series of unfortunate events, the severity of his ear illness triggered hearing loss. This greatly impacted his future; he was unable to continue his studies in the Music department. Autonomously, he took his studying seriously and was able to cultivate his passion for Linguistics. He dedicated six years of learning at the Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany. Upon his return to Albania, he commenced his teaching career. He was a German language professor at three different high schools: Petro Nini Luarasi, Andon Zako Çajupi and Kombinati. Due to his persistent interest in education and politics, he was assigned the Diplomat title when the first Albanian Embassy launched in Vienna, Austria a year later. As his responsibilities increased with time, his diplomatic duty extended to Germany and Switzerland alongside Austria for over thirty years. At this point in his life, he was competent to conquer the Ambassador of Albania title with residency in Vienna. During his prime, he was also appointed as Albanian Ambassador for the Swiss Confederate, and was a permanent representative of Albania for many other international organizations based in Austria and Switzerland – one of many being the International Atomic Energy Agency. Additionally, he played a momentous role in creating international relations between Albania and Germany in collaboration with Joseph Strauss, the Bavarian state prime minister. Bardhi was able to pave the way for Strauss’ initial private visit to Albania, followed by a second official entry into the country. This, in many ways, was seen as the birth of bilateral collaborations amid Albania and Germany. Idriz Bardhi was wholeheartedly enthusiastic about the topic of international relations and spent his whole life improving his understanding of international relations between Albania and Germany. As a result of his hard work, he helped the Chamber of Commerce in Albania achieve recovery of the free market and cultivation of the business market through international interactions. Furthermore, with this advancement he helped improve Albanian infrastructure such as airport, highways, and hydro power plants. He worked with the same attentiveness and commitment until he retired as Director of Archives at the Foreign Ministry. Even though he was retired at this point in his life, he wanted to utilize his knowledge by creating a German/Albanian idiomatic dictionary. His passion for linguistics that started in Humboldt University of Berlin during his youth remained relentless up until his last day with us.
He is survived by his wife Mediha, his brother Hysen, three sons Edmond, Sokol, and Alfred, a daughter Zamira, nine grandchildren and many other beloved relatives.
