Obituary

Richard “Rick” Northrup Cyr of Adamsville, RI, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2014. He was born in Fall River, MA, to Edgar Joseph Cyr and Olive Northrup Cyr. He is survived by his children Merri Ann Cyr and her husband Mark Walker of Westport, MA; Cory D. Cyr and his wife Laura of Brooklyn, NY; and his stepson Jon G. Sequira and his wife Amanda Snellinger of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his brother David B. Cyr of Londenderry, VT. He leaves his companion, former wife and the love of his life, Pamela Ann Cyr of Adamsville, RI, and former wives Amelia Tripp of Westport, MA, and Linda J. Hamilton of Clyde, NC.

Rick was co-owner of Stone Bridge Dishes in Tiverton and later Adamsville, RI, until he “retired” to become a lobsterman. Rick had a lifelong passion for the ocean, where he was most at home. He was an avid scuba diver as well as a certified diving instructor. He was a skilled woodworker who built a number of skiffs, followed by his two lobster boats, the Pamela Ann and the Cathy Ann—and ultimately the “Plan B,” his dream lobster boat.

He attended URI and in 1963 joined the U S Air Force, where he studied Korean language at Yale University Institute of Foreign Language. He then became a voice intercept operator in Korea.

One of Rick’s many gifts was his ability to turn a phrase. He was the ultimate wordsmith. His wit and sense of humor was appreciated and enjoyed by all who knew him. He was a kind and gentle soul and loved nothing more than chatting with both friends and strangers alike. He will be missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Little Beach in South Dartmouth on August 24, 2014, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Road, Casco, ME 04015
