MERREY - Kathy Merrey, 61, passed away Friday evening, July 25, 2014 at her Callahan, FL residence.
Mrs. Merrey was born August 17, 1952 in Orlando, FL and moved to Callahan eight years ago from Jacksonville, FL. She was a member of the first graduating class of The University of North Florida and was a member of the National Education Association. Mrs. Merrey was a devoted wife, mother and teacher. As an educator, she taught school for 40 years in Nassau County. She taught 10th grade at West Nassau High School and taught Journalism and English at Hilliard Middle-Senior High School where she was also the yearbook advisor. She impacted the lives of many throughout her teaching career.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Keith Merrey of Callahan, FL; her daughter, Jamie Merrey Ball and son in law, Jonathan Ball of Yulee, FL; her mother, Glenna Hall of Jacksonville, FL; mother in law, Dot Merrey, also of Jacksonville; a sister, Gayle Elliott (Larry); sister in law, Lynne Ghioto (Rod); nieces and nephews, Jeff Ghioto (Sara), Lucie Ghioto (Ginny), Justin Elliot (Leian) and Matt Elliott; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, at The Journey Church, 95707 Amelia Concourse , Yulee, FL 32097. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
