Obituary

LOWELL—Lawrence ‘Larry’ Sullivan, 57 years old, died Thursday, November 18th, at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of Connie (Laferriere) Sullivan and the late Karen L. (Redman) Sullivan, who died in 1994.

He was born in Lowell, on April 23, 1947, a son of the late Raymond and Doris (Dawson) Sullivan, and was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Lowell High School.

Mr. Sullivan was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.

After his discharge, he was appointed a permanent firefighter on September 19, 1976, where he served as a driver for Engine 3 Rescue Company for 25 years. On January 21, 2002, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served at Engine 7, Pine Street.

He was a Past President for the International Association of Firefighters and the Lowell Firefighters Union, Local 853. He was also a member of the Boston Gaelic Fire Brigade; the Disabled American Veterans, Post 110; the Vietnam Veteran’s Association; the Lowell Gaelic Club; the U.S. Bunting and Cricket Club; the Lowell Firefighter’s Club. He was a former member of the Telephone Workers Union of the I.B.E.W. In 1991, he was elected to the Lowell Retirement Board. Larry also holds citizenship in the Republic of Ireland.

Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Pam Sullivan, of Nashua, NH; two daughters: MaryBeth Sullivan, of Lowell; and Lisa Sullivan, of Newburyport; three grandchildren: Alex, Julia and Larry Connor; a step-daughter: Shannon Laferriere, of New Jersey; a brother and sister-in-law: Michael and Marygayle Sullivan, of Dracut; a sister and brother-in-law: Raeann and Ron Rondeau, of Hudson, NH; one aunt: Mildred Burns, of Chelmsford; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Brian Sullivan.

Friends may call from 2 until 8 PM on Sunday, November 21st, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, November 22nd, at 12 noon at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in the Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation/New England Chapter; 462 Boston Street; Suite 1-1; Topsfield, MA 01983.
