CHICOPEE – Bernard S. Minor, Jr., 80, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Orchard Street in Chicopee on March 21, 1934, a beloved son of the late Bernard S. Minor, Sr. and Stella M. (Burek) Minor. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from local schools and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and attained the rank of Seaman. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and was employed for 32 years as a Police Officer for the City of Chicopee and retired in 1992 from the Detective Bureau with Badge No. 1. He was a member of the American Legion Post 452 in Chicopee and served the City of Chicopee for 15 years as a member of the Chicopee Golf Commission. He leaves his loving wife, Lorraine M. (Moffett) Boisvert Minor of Chicopee; his son, Kenneth B. Minor and his wife, Rosemary, of South Hadley; his daughter, Sandra M. Fontana of Georgia; his step-son, Michael Boisvert and his wife, Corrine, of South Hadley; his step-daughter, Mia R. Weibel of Ludlow; his grandchildren, Kenneth S. Minor, Matthew W. Minor and Eric Robertson; his step-grandchildren, Tara Boisvert, Michael Weibel, Jr. and Jennifer Plamondon; his step-great granddaughter, Madison Pellissier; his brother, Ronald T. Minor and his wife, C. Lee Bennett, of Westfield; his sisters-in-law, Marie Bates and her husband, David, of Florida, and Marilyn Rondeau and her husband, Tom, of West Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Minor, Moffett and Boisvert families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his step-daughter, Michelle M. Boisvert; and his step-son, Mark A. Boisvert. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning, July 29, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. His Committal Service with US Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
