Obituary

Saunders, on the morning of July 23rd, Daniel J. Saunders IV passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital after a short illness. Dan was 68 years old.

Dan was born in Cambridge, MA on March 23, 1946, the first child of Margaret (O’Rourke) and Daniel J. Saunders III. He graduated from Roslindale High School in 1965, and served proudly in the United States Army Reserve. He began his career at Sears Roebuck and was for many years a dedicated sales representative at Lundermac of Dedham until his retirement.

Dan was an avid golfer and member of the Norfolk Country Club. He was a season ticket holder to Boston College Eagles football and hockey games and served as member of the Pike’s Peak Hockey Club Board of Directors. Dan supported the work of My Brother’s Keeper, a ministry in southeastern, MA that delivers furniture and food to local families in need. He loved spending time with his friends and family and always had a good story to tell and a song to sing.

Dan is survived by his mother Margaret Saunders of West Roxbury; brother James K. and his wife Lynne of Bellevue, WA; sister Margaret and her husband Stach Szuplat of Falmouth, MA; brother Terence P. and his companion Eva Abruzzese of Wareham, MA; and sister Mary Ann and her husband Arthur Marin of Roslindale, MA. Many nieces, a nephew and several great nieces and nephews also survive him, as well as his God Mother Mary Beattie and his cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel J. Saunders III, in 1997.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7pm on Sunday July 27, at the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home at 1803 Centre Street in West Roxbury.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Monday July 28, at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury.

Dan will be buried at a private service in the Tewksbury Cemetery.
