BEVERLY- Ernest J. Sullivan, 74 husband of Lucille (Bouchard) Sullivan, of Sturtevant Street, Beverly, a communicant of St. James Church, Salem and a resident of Salem until 1999, died Sunday, November 26, 2000 in the Masconomet Health Care Center, Topsfield, following a long illness.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ellen (Leary) Sullivan.
Mr Sullivan was a graduate of St John’s Prep and Northeastern University.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was employed for 43 years by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Health. He worked as a sanitary engineer for the state hospitals and later was a nursing home inspector.
An Army Air Force veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with Headquarters Squadron, 308th Bomb Wing, and attained the rank of Corporal.
A resident of Salem for over 40 years, he was a communicant of the St. James Parish where he volunteered as an usher and a bingo worker for many years.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Terry Gilb of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alan Sullivan and two sisters, Mary Frances Wall and Clemence Ames.
His funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at 11 AM from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 12:05 PM at the Chapel of St. James Church, Salem.
