Ronald “Ron” Lee Clark, 72, passed away in his sleep with his daughter, Christina Lee Clark, his caretaker, by his side on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
Ron was born in Marion, Indiana on September 6, 1941, the son of the late Lloyd Edwin Clark and Verneta Gwendolyn (Stanley) Clark. Growing up in Indiana, Ron’s favorite childhood memories were times spent on Chapman Lake Arrowhead Point with his mother, father, sister and brother, the late James Edwin Clark. He learned how to fly fish with his father, one of his favorite pastimes.
Ron graduated from Marion High School in 1959 and received his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. He was in the ROTC Officer’s training program.
Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. While stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Ron met his first wife, Lynne Todd Walden, while she was attending Lake Forest College. They moved to Connecticut and had two daughters, Christina Lee Clark and Tracey Hunter Clark. They were married for ten years. She predeceased him in 1993.
While working at Electric Boat in Groton, Ron met his second wife, Maryann Mallon, who also predeceased him in 1993, and they had a daughter, Dannielle Maryann Moreno. They were married for a brief time.
Ron worked at Electric Boat in Groton for 39 years. He enjoyed bowling, fly fishing, golfing, playing bridge, basketball, especially UCONN Women’s Basketball, watching sports and doing crossword puzzles from the newspaper.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11:00am at the Mystic Congregational Church, 43 East Main Street, Mystic. Visiting hours will be on Friday, July 18, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial with full military honors will be held privately at a later date in Middletown Veteran’s Cemetery.
