SALEM– Barbara Bannick, of Salem, MA, formerly of Somerville, died Sunday, December 17, 2000 following a two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Monrovia, CA, she was the daughter of Ann Buckman Bunker and the late Alan Bunker.
Barbara earned her BA and MA in Librarianship from the University of Washington. She served as the head of the Reference Department of the Somerville Public Library for twelve years. She was a member of Family Tree and served on its Coordinating Council. She was Vice President of Research for 7128-Software.
Barbara was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and reading. She had driven across the United States many times, visiting all 48 contiguous states. She celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Bermuda and June on Nantucket for many years and enjoyed visiting London and Paris. On her most recent trip to France she offered a mousse “to the people of Paris.”
Her great vocation was to serve the patrons of the Somerville Public Library.
Barbara is survived by her husband, John Bannick, her mother, Ann Bunker, brothers Bruce and Grant Bunker, sisters-in-law Kathie Newman, Adrienne Peterson, Connie Bannick, brother-in-law Col. Richard Bannick, nieces Linnea Peterson-Bunker and Sara Bannick, nephews Jonathan Bannick, Ian and Eric Bunker, Karl and Nathan Peterson-Bunker, and by her partners David Brown, Earle Robinson, Eleanor Robinson, Cynthia Geller, and Marcia Morrison.
A memorial service was held at 2:15 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at the First Universalist Church, 211 Bridge Street, Salem. (Route 107)
