Obituary

BOXFORD- George T. Fox, 71, husband of Phyllis E. (Daigle) Fox, of Boxford, formerly of Danvers, died Saturday evening, March 3, 2001 in the Salem Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Peabody on July 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Dr. Henry and Mary (Norton) Fox.

Mr. Fox served in the Navy Reserve from 1953 to 1961and was assigned to the Salem Naval Reserve Station.

Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed for 42 years at Parker Bros. in Salem and Beverly and retired as Director of Sales.

He was a graduate of Peabody High School and the Bentley College of Accounting, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Veragua Council, #76 of Salem. He lived in Peabody and Salem before moving to Danvers where he was a resident for many years until 1991. He was a former Danvers Town Meeting Member. He and his wife enjoyed travel and camping, their cottage in Maine, winters in Florida and gatherings of family and friends. He was lovingly called “Papa” by his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Elaine Fox of Wrentham, Brian and Jaci Fox of Peabody, two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Stephen Haggstrom of Bradford, Jennifer and Thomas Hausmann of Dover, New Hampshire, and six grandchildren, Benjamin Burt of Beverly, Emily Fox and Daniel Fox of Wrentham, Erik Haggstrom of Bradford, Henry and Will Hausmann of Dover, New Hampshire. He was the brother of the late Nancy Samas.

His funeral service was held on Friday, March 9, 2001, at 9 AM from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at the St. Thomas The Apostle Church, Rte 114, on the Salem-Peabody line. Visiting hours were in the funeral home on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
