James G. Wood
...Salem High School Class of 1969; age 53
SALEM, MA - James G. Wood, 53, a lifelong Salem resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, following a
lengthy illness, at the Tewksbury Hospital, with his family by his side.
He was born in Salem, Dec. 4, 1950, a son of the late Henry and Dorothy (Morton) Wood. He
attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated Salem High School with the Class of 1969.
He enjoyed both sports and music, and was a particularly avid Red Sox fan, most notably the
World Champion 2004 Red Sox team.
He is survived by a son, James Michael Wood of Salem; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and
his wife Khadija Wood of both Salem and Morocco, Dan and his wife Mae Wood of Marblehead;
four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Louise and her husband Rick Currier of Rowley, Betsy and
her husband Joe Melin, Patricia Mercier, and Anne Wood all of Salem; an aunt, Kay Guthrie of
Salem; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends in the Salem area, and friends and staff at the
Tewksbury Hospital.
He was also brother of the late William A. Wood.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Nov. 22, in the Immaculate Conception
Church, Salem. Following Mass, committal prayers were offered in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
