Lester Paul Burgo, age 59 of New Bedford, MA passed away on July 8, 2014 unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Waldemar G. and Eva (Pinto) Burgo, Lester lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Lester enjoyed playing softball in his youth and was a standout track star. Lester was an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan. He enjoyed fishing with his son and nephews, story telling, and always had a joke to tell.
Lester was employed as a long time produce manager at multiple supermarkets and took pride in his work.
Survivors include a son Lester Burgo, Jr of New Bedford; 6 brothers, Waldemar Burgo of San Deigo CA, Donald Burgo of San Bernadino, CA, Elario Burgo, Anterio Burgo, Maurice Burgo and Marcio Burgo, all of New Bedford; 3 sisters Eleanor Duarte of New Bedford, Alice Fields of Alaska and Linda Pinto of North Dighton; 7 grand-children, Lester Burgo III, Jacob Burgo, Matthew Burgo, Joshua Burgo, Kirah Soares, Unique Burgo and Leilah Burgo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the companion of the late Cynthia Valentin and the brother of the late Eugenia Lomba and Leonard Burgo. Lester will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to bring laughter to others. He will be greatly missed.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 19th at 1 PM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
