Obituary

Miss Lillian F. Bannon, of Taunton, died Tuesday, July 8 in Longmeadow of Taunton following a period of failing health. She was born 92 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Timothy and Marie (Tremblay) Bannon. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School. Lillian continued her education at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Providence, R.I., and received Masters Degrees from both Boston College and Assumption College in Worcester. Lillian resided in the Fitchburg area for many years before returning to Taunton upon her retirement 25 years ago. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a Professor at Fitchburg State College for 35 years. She was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a First Lieutenant with the 388th Station Hospital in Germany during the latter part of World War II. Lillian was a member of the American Nurses Association and the National League of Nursing. She enjoyed listening to radio, was an avid reader, donated to many veteran’s causes and, for a time, was a Hospice volunteer. She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
She leaves: 2 nieces: Diane Soares and her husband, Alfred of East Taunton, and Elizabeth Blackwell and her husband, Jim of Foxboro, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Lillian was also the sister of the late Helen B. Renaud, Norman Bannon and Norma Bannon, all of Taunton.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Friday, July 11 at 9:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Visiting Hour will precede the funeral, Friday, from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M.
