GLOUCESTER: Wesley C. J. Schuster, 90 of 6 Grandview Rd., died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Helen C. (Josephson) Schuster.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 17, 1923, he was the son of the late Gilbert E. and Estelle (Barnekow) Schuster. He was orphaned at age three and lived in the Wauwatosa Home for Dependent Children and then attended schools in Milwaukee, Fall River and Menominee Falls, Wisconsin.
During World War II, he served in the US. Coast Guard stationed in Gloucester and then aboard the U.S.S. Wakefield, a troop transport ship, making forty crossings of the Atlantic Ocean. Wesley received the American Area and European-African-Middle Eastern Area campaign ribbons.
One of his proudest achievements was attaining Master of The Tyrian Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in 1966. He was also a member of the Aleppo Shrine, where he attained the thirty-second degree. Wesley was Assistant Manager at the Cape Ann Tool Co. in Rockport where he worked for thirty-eight years. He loved to play golf, garden and travelled throughout the United States and Europe. He also enjoyed fishing, clamming and being on the ocean.
In addition to his wife, with whom he would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this October, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley Jr. and Dawn of St. Helena Island, SC and Stephen B. and Patricia of Madbury, NH; six grandsons, Craig and his wife, Robyn of Atkinson, NH, Lars and his wife, Elizabeth of Hopkinton, Ryan and his wife, Bethany of Fishersville, VA, Matthew and Luke of Denver, CO and Michael of Nantucket; six great-grandchildren, Zachary and Maxwell of Atkinson, NH, Charlotte, Levi and Adelaide of Hopkinton and Molly of Fishersville, VA and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by five brothers, Erich, Harvey, Robert, Gilbert and Milton and two sisters, Georgiana and Delores.
His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 8th in The Tyrian-Ashler-Acacia Lodge, A.F. & A.M., 27 Eastern Ave., Gloucester at 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to The Tyrian-Ashler-Acacia Lodge Scholarship Fund, 27 Eastern Ave., Gloucester, MA 01930.
