Obituary

CHICOPEE – Marie (Pistekova) “Babi” Caganek, 96, a longtime resident of Memorial Drive in the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Loomis House in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Nedakonice, Czechoslovakia on September 9, 1917, a beloved daughter of the late Martin and Marie (Ostrusinikova) Pistek and moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1973. Since 2009, Marie was a resident of the Loomis Community in Holyoke where she made many new friends. During her leisure time, Marie enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. Most of all, Marie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she was a member of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Martin Caganek who was Called Home on April 26, 1986; and her loving daughter, Eva M. (Caganek) Catrett who was Called Home on July 27, 2010. She leaves her cherished grandchildren, Alan M. Catrett and his wife, Lisa, of Easthampton, Eva D. Catrett Recchia of Chicopee and Gerald T. Catrett of Chesterfield, VA; her eight cherished great-grandchildren, Jessica Mirisis and her husband, Petros, Chelsea Catrett, Joseph Recchia, Jeffrey Recchia, Mackenzie Catrett and his wife, Ashley, Alexander Catrett, Victoria Catrett and Taylor Catrett; her three cherished great-great-granddaughters, Alexandra Mirisis, Katerina Mirisis and Emma Catrett; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Caganek and Pistek families. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. Visiting hours will be private for her family. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
