T SGT Warren G. “Shorty” Walsh, USAF (Ret.), 83, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at the Mystic Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Hiers, Rev. Howard Kitchens, and Rev. Richard Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in Mystic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Walsh was born September 17, 1921 in Coffee County to the late Marvin M. and Ida Hester Walsh. He lived in the community for the past thirty years. Mr. Walsh entered the U.S. Army June 3, 1942 and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force which he retired from after 22 years service, May 31 1964. He served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills, Felton Watson, and Red Rooster. He also worked for Benny Anderson at Fitzgerald Ford and was a member of the Baptist Purity Church in Abbeville.
Mr. Walsh is survived by three daughters: Deborah Kitchens, Camron, NC; Terry Clark, Fitzgerald and Lisa Reynolds, Atlanta; two sons: Gary Walsh, Redstone Arsenal, AL and Tony Walsh, Atlanta; step-daughter: Linda Adkisson, Fitzgerald; step-son: Herman “Pete” Oden, Fitzgerald; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Thelma Rogers, Fitzgerald and (Loas) Beatrice Palmer, Dermott, Arkansas; and one brother: Gerald Walsh, Hampton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Y. Walsh.
