WAYLAND: Stephen J. Catalanotto, 88, died comfortably under the care of his family at his Wayland residence on Wednesday morning, June 18, 2014 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Boston on October 31, 1925 the son of the late Joseph and Paulina Catalanotto.
Stephen is survived by his sons; James W. Catalanotto and his wife Emily of Marlborough; David E. Catalanotto of Kingston, New Hampshire and Stephen T. Catalanotto of Florida. Loving grandfather of Nicholas and Caitlin Catalanotto of Kingston, New Hampshire. Brother of Paulina Cucchiari of Belmont and father-in-law of the late Ruth Catalanotto. Husband for 47 years of the late Barbara J. (Morahan) Catalanotto who died in December of 2006.
Stephen has been a resident of Wayland for over 53 years and previously resided in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School with the Class of 1943. After graduating from high school, Stephen signed with the New York Yankees as a third baseman and played in their minor leagues for over two years. He began his career as a mechanic with the Town of Belmont Water Department. He retired after over 25 years of dedicated service as a water mechanic for the Town of Wayland Water Department.
He loved baseball and especially the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees rivalry. Stephen also enjoyed all sporting events, history and debating politics. He was a people person and would strike up a conversation with people from all walks of life. He was devoted to his family and also loved his many pet dogs.
Visitations will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland,
Private family interment will be held at the Catalanotto family lot in Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers his family suggests the memorial gifts in Stephen’s memory may be sent to the Perkins School for the Blind, Perkins Trust Office, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
