Boston – Ronald J. “Jack” DeAndrade, 59, of Westport died unexpectedly, Friday, November 12, 2004 at New England Medical Center. He was the companion of Robin D. Chretien of Westport.
He was born in Fall River, son of the late John R. “Jack” and Evelyn M. (Clement) DeAndrade, and was a lifelong resident of Westport. He was employed by Newport – Portsmouth Artesian Well Company, Portsmouth as a well driller. In his younger years he was the first mate on the Pat-San-Marie out of Westport for the Pre-Lude Lobster Company until it’s closing. He was also a bakemaster for 30 years.
Mr. DeAndrade loved children and baseball and dedicated 14 years to the Babe Ruth League in Westport, where he held many positions from president to minor league director and was a Babe Ruth umpire. He was a pioneer in many improvements at the ball field, which included the addition to the concession stand, running water and outside restrooms. An avid hunter, he was past president and a very active member of the Paskamansett Beagle Club. He was a past member of the Little Compton Volunteer Fire Department.
Including his companion he is survived by 2 sons: John R. “J.R.” DeAndrade of Fall River and Jared J. DeAndrade of Tiverton; a daughter: Brandi L. DeAndrade of Westport; a stepbrother: Thomas E. Carreiro of Westport; a grandson: Nicholas R. Enos of Westport; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his former wife: June A. (Gonsalves) DeAndrade of Westport.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.
Calling hours Monday 4 – 7 P.M.
Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
