Dolores P. (Mercier) Carpenter, 83, of Medway, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. She was the wife of Thomas J. Carpenter, Jr. who she married in 1954 and died in 1994.
Born in Lewiston, ME on September 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Angeline (Leger) Mercier.
Mrs. Carpenter was a resident of Medway since 1961. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1949 where she was the valedictorian of her class and later graduated from Boston University in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Carpenter worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and she had previously worked at Jordan Marsh. During the 1980’s, she was the assistant librarian at Medway High School and before she met her husband, she taught music in Ludlow, VT.
Mrs. Carpenter was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. She was an avid reader and gardener and was devoted to her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Richard T. Carpenter and his wife Carol of Mount Airy, MD, Brian M. Carpenter and his wife Sherri of Advance, NC and Christopher J. Carpenter and his wife Ann of Watertown and a daughter Deborah Ann Henry and her husband Richard of Cambridge.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Melissa, Robby, Adrianne, Morgan, Emily, Lily and Sam and two great-grandchildren, Dublin and Chandler.
She was the sister of the late Robert and Richard Mercier.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Friday, June 20 at 11:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at noon. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m.
