Alvaro Sousa, age 79, of Somerset passed away on Tuesday June 17, 2014. He was the husband of the late Maria do Anjos (Silva) Sousa. Born in São Miguel, Açores Portugal he was the son of the late Alvaro and Silvana (Travassos) Sousa. He was a foreman for Narraganset Improvement Company and a bus driver for Fisher Bus Company, a member of the Holy Name Committee, Holy Ghost Society and an active parishioner and Eucharistic Minister of St. John of God Parish.
He is survived by his children: Jean DeSouto (husband Dan) of Swansea, Alvaro S. Sousa (wife Cathy) of Rehoboth, and Theresa Neves (husband Roy) of Somerset, his siblings: Landina DeMelo, José DeSousa, Florinda Pecsi, Fatima Baron, and Christine Sousa, grandchildren: Nathaniel and Caitlin Sousa, Eric and Andrea Neves, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Silvana Oliveira.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on FRIDAY here at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. John of God Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Somerset . Calling hours on THURSDAY from 5-8 P.M.
