Sister M. Neri (Marjorie) Burrows, 90, a Sister of Mercy for 67 years, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, after a period of declining health. A native of Everett, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of George and Catherine (Emmert) Burrows.
Sister Neri received her B.A. degree in business from Mount St. Mary College, Hooksett, New Hampshire, and her M.A. in business and guidance counseling from Salem State College, Salem, Massachusetts.
For many years Sister Neri was a teacher in elementary and high schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She taught at St. Joseph, St. Raphael, and St. Patrick schools in Manchester, and Sacred Heart School in Nashua. She taught business subjects at St. Patrick High School in Berlin, New Hampshire, and St. Ann High School in Gloucester, Massachusetts. She also served as principal at Bishop Brady High School in Concord, New Hampshire, and was superior of the convent at Holy Family Parish in Lynn, Massachusetts.
Sister Neri served in community leadership for the New Hampshire Sisters of Mercy from 1974-1977, and was treasurer of the community from 1974-1981. From 1981 until her retirement in 2009, she was financial officer of the community.
She is survived by her niece, Marjorie McMillan, DVM, of Medford, Massachusetts; her nephew, George McMillan and his wife, Joan, of Billerica, Massachusetts; her grandniece, Heather, and grandnephew, John, as well as the members of her Mercy Community. Sister Neri was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy McMillan.
Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, N.H., on Wednesday, June18, from 9:30-11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, N.H.
