Manuel C. Perry, age 82 of Fall River, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Elia (Silva) Perry, and the son of the late Antone & Maria (Sardinha) Perry. Known for his strong work ethic, Manny held 2 jobs for most of his life. Prior to retiring at the age of 75, he was the proud owner of the former Ray’s Package Store on Eagle St. After his retirement, he spent much of his time at the Club Madeirense SS Sacramento of New Bedford, acting as the First Assistant Treasurer, and helping to prepare for each year's Feast which raised money to fund scholarships for local students. His kindness and compassion were reflected in his love for animals, and his home was always a safe haven for any stray dog or cat. Some of his greatest joys came from celebrating the accomplishments of his son, Manuel C. Perry Jr., M.D., and his grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth and Brian Scott Perry, of Goshen, NY. And he especially enjoyed sharing a glass of Madeira or Scotch with his son, his nephews, and his cousins. Most importantly, he shared the last 55 years of his life with his devoted wife, Elia, who was his business partner, companion, and for the last several months, his caregiver who provided loving support and comfort. He was a US Army veteran, and a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.
In addition to his wife, his son, and his grandchildren, he leaves his daughter-in-law, Phyllis, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother of the late Antone Pereira, Balbina Vieira, Maria Silvia, Elsie Alegria, and Maria Gloria Aguiar.
