Augusta, GA – Mrs. Helen Loflin Simmons, 94, beloved wife of the late Isaac A. Simmons, Jr., entered into rest on Thursday, June 12, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Mrs. Simmons will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment to follow services in Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Washington, GA to the late James Thomas and Alma Burdett Loflin. She graduated from the University Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 as the Valedictorian. Her life works was raising money for and giving back to the University Hospital School of Nursing Endowment. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church where she was active in the Wednesday Night Fellowship, the Senior Adult Ministry, and the Loaves of Faith Bible Study. She enjoyed her trips throughout Georgia with her Senior Adult group and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Simmons grew flowers and vegetables and her Christmas Cacti were once featured in the Augusta Magazine. She also enjoyed music especially classical, opera, and symphony. Mrs. Simmons loved her family and they will cherish their memories of her.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by her brothers, George W. Loflin, Addison S. Loflin, and James P. Loflin; her grandchildren, David Christopher Wilson (Melissa) and Kristen Leigh Van Zant (Jeremy); her great-grandchildren, Chance, Tybee, Aura, Daylie, and Tinley Wilson; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her children, Thomas Marcus Simmons, and Janice Lynn Wilson; and by her siblings, William R. Loflin, James Thomas Loflin, Jr., Jane Loflin Watkins, and Jannette Loflin.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, June 15, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
