Jayne Ruth Borges, 67, of Mashpee, passed away on June 11, 2014 in Boston, MA.
Jayne was born on April 7, 1947 at home in South Dartmouth, MA, to Gilda (Costa) and Manuel M. Borges. In 1950, the family moved to California where Jayne attended school and college. During her service in the Volunteers In Service to America (VISTA) program, she lived on the Upper Pennisula of Michigan, where she met her former husband, Larry Ellis. They made their home in Phoenix, Arizona. Their daughter, Laura, was born in 1975. Following her divorce, she and Laura returned to California. She began a respected career in software consulting. In 1986, she took a job with the McCosker Corporation in Northern Virginia. In 2000, she moved to her dearly-loved home in Mashpee with her beloved pets Cooper and Joey. She loved the Cape and entertaining family and visitors there.
Jayne was the living embodiment of the phrase, “Love one another.” Everyone who met her could speak of her love and kindness for family, friends, and those less fortunate. One example of this occurred in 2008, when one of Jayne’s long time friends and co-worker was diagnosed with cancer shortly after his retirement. Unfortunately, he lost his battle little more than a year later. Jayne felt it was very important to ensure his legacy was remembered, and worked to establish a memorial in his honor. As a result, a training center was named in his honor at the company headquarters. Jayne took an active role in spearheading a beautiful ceremony that included his family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilda and Manuel, her sister, Carol Ann Borges, her brother, Gordon Elliot Borges and her beloved aunts, Mary (Costa) Barcellos and Ruth (Costa) Hunt.
Jayne was at her happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Lynne Ellis of Mashpee; her sister Cindy Borges McKim and husband Kris of Roseville, CA; her brother Gordon Kimbal Borges and wife Sharon of Redding, CA; her brother Mark Daniel Borges and wife Diana of Lake Stevens, WA; her nieces Heather, Beth, and Juliana; her nephews Anthony, Michael, Matthew, Ryan, Nicholas; several grandnieces and grandnephews; numerous cousins; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday June 16, 2014 at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, MA, with burial at Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284. Donations specifically made in Jayne’s name will be directed to lung cancer research.
Her gentleness, caring, quick wit, great intelligence, and beautiful smile will be missed by all.
