Norma J. (Sprague) Erickson, at the age of 89, passed away peacefully on June 11,2014, in the Wingate at Siler Lake Nursing Facility in Kingston after a period of illness. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur E. Erickson S.: sister to the late Dorothy Wells and Mary Marconi and mother-in-law to the late Carl Peters. She is survived by her brothers Bernard Sprague of California and MacDonald Sprague and his wife Bobbie of Kingston; her son Arthur E. Erickson Jr. of Hanson and her daughter Deborah Peters of Florida; her daughter-in-law Jeanne Erickson of Florida; her grandchildren Lori Burgess and her husband William of Pembroke, Arthur E. Erickson III and his wife Jessica of Florida and Kristin MacDonald and her husband Michael of Hanson; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Samantha Burgess and Riley and Presley Erickson; and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Norma was born in Dedham and raised in Randolph; later moving to Holbrook, Marstons Mills, Florida and Hanson. She served as a hospital assistant in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She also served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She was a Hospital Assistant stationed in Bethesda, MD and also Chelsea, MA. After she was discharged, she continued to meet with fellow WAVES for close to 40 years. She was involved with the First Congregaional Church while living in Randloph and Holbrok and West Parish in Barnstable after moving to the Cape where she resided for over 20 years. She loved music and enjoyed singing, especially all the old hymns. She played the organ and loved to sit for hours and teach and listen to her grandchildren and great grandchildren play. She had many cousins living in Canada and enjoyed spending time reminiscing every Easter in Lake Megantic in the province of Quebec, where her family would gather from New England and all over Canada. She enjoyed doing crafts, belonging to a group called "Kitty Corner" for many years. She especially enjoyed needlepoint and passed on many heirlooms. She loved swimming and golf, but especially dancing. Norma and her late husband Arthur were always getting dressed up and going to clubs, dances, parties and events to showcase their moves. She liked to travel; including taking a couple cruises, and trips to Hawaii and Florida. She was an avid reader and loved to watch the daytime soap opera"Days of Our Lives" and the series "Dallas". Calling hours will be held at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, from 4-8pm on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 followed by a small service. Burial will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10:30am at The Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne.
