George Winiford Patterson, 60, of Sumner died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Earl Steffens will officiate with burial to follow in Sumner Cemetery. Brandon Sapp, Josh Williams, Chris Graddy, Travis Lane, Drew Cravey, Brett Cravey, Garrison Jones and Blake Slappey will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Eason, Mark McLean, Delbert Douglas, Hayward Douglas, Ray Sumner and Morris Sapp. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Patterson was born on August 22, 1953 in Tifton and was the son of Mildred Bozeman Patterson of Omega and the late George Washington Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Suggs Patterson, who died April 24, 2014. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Sumner.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Patterson is survived by one son, Clint Patterson of Sumner; three daughters and one son-in-law, Carly Patterson of Sumner, Kristie Patterson-Brown and husband Donovan of Gainesville, and Keli Patterson Walden of Charleston, South Carolina; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mack and Jerri Patterson of Sumner and Charles and Rita Patterson of Omega; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Lonnie Canady of Omega, Linda and Mickey Whittington of Jesup and Faye and Edward Slappey of Sumner; one grandson, Alex Walden; numerous nieces and nephews; and a personal family friend, Jacob Drawdy of Sumner.
