John F. Mahan Jr., passed away on Jun 9, 2014 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born on Aug 17, 1920 in Springfield to the late John F. Mahan Sr. and Sadie (Collins). He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and now Holy Name Church in Chicopee. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the Atlantic on the destroyer the USS Winslow attaining the rank of Machinist Mate 2nd Class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 420. John worked as a set up man for the American Bosch for 15 years before retiring in 1982. He leaves his loving wife Anita (Fisher) Mahan of Springfield; three daughters Joyce Blanchard of Wales, Janice Klaus and her husband Fred of Springfield and Linda LaPlume of GA; one son John “Jack” Mahan III and his wife Joanne of East Longmeadow ; one sister Mary Lyons of Springfield; fourteen grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Mahan. A funeral service will be held on Sat Jun 14, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:00 AM in Holy Name Church (104 Springfield St. Chicopee). Burial will follow with military honors at Calvary Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Fri., Jun 13, 2014 from 3 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
