James Edward Sewell, 76, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, June 13, 2014 at Old Prospect Baptist Church in Ben Hill County with the Rev. Danny Gay and the Rev. John Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6-8 at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Sewell was born May 29, 1938, in Fitzgerald to the late John L. and Ada Young Sewell. He lived in the community all of his life and served in the United States Air Force. He was owner and operator of Sewell’s Upholstery for 54 years. He was a member of the Singing Prophets for 34 years and a member of Old Prospect Baptist Church, where he served as the song leader and a deacon for 46 years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Barbara Weaver Sewell of Fitzgerald; children: Tammy Sewell of Fitzgerald, Jimmy Sewell of Davisboro, Melissa Sewell of Jacksonville, Florida and Terri Sewell of Fitzgerald; sisters: Betty S. Taylor of Fitzgerald, Evelyn S. Dawson and Louise S. Howell both of Tallahassee, Florida; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Johnny Eugene Sewell.
