Obituary

Lakeville - Harriet C. (Welch) Parker, 94, of E. Freetown passed away June 5, 2014 at Island Terrace Nursing Home, Lakeville. She was the widow of Robert C. Parker.

Mrs. Parker was born in Fall River, daughter of the late Elbert H. and Louise B. (Chace) Welch, and was a lifelong resident of E. Freetown. Her passion was for education as was her mother's. She began her career as a school teacher at the Milton E. Earle School, Westport, and continued at the Mason’s Corner School, E. Freetown, the Freetown Elementary School, and finally as the librarian at Apponequet Regional High School until her retirement in 1985. She was an officer of the Chace Cemetery Association for many years, a member of the Freetown Historical Society, New England Retired Teachers Association and a 75 year member of the E. Freetown Grange.

Survivors include her son: Cris D. Parker and his wife, Marie, of E. Freetown; her sister: Lois Cookson and her husband, Glenn, of Acushnet; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 niece; and several cousins. She was mother of the late Dean R. Parker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chace Cemetery Association, c/o Walter Carrier, Treasurer, 94 Dr. Braley Rd., E. Freetown, MA 02717.

Visiting hours on Sunday, June 8, 2014, 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.

A graveside service will be held at the Chace Cemetery, E. Freetown on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.
