Obituary

Marjorie [Margie, Mom, Jida], resident of Stonington Borough, Connecticut, passed away Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 at 97 years of age in Westerly, Rhode Island following a brief hospitalization.

She was born in 1916 in Middletown Connecticut to John George Krauth and Frances Catherine Lohneiss Krauth.

Marjorie grew up in Middletown and later worked in Hartford at Aetna Insurance Company until her marriage in 1938 to Thomas Arthur Bragdon. She and “Tom” had 64 years of marriage. Marjorie was dedicated to her family and was a wonderful cook and hostess. She became an accomplished artist, having studied with Gail Martin at Hartford Art School and Robert Cale at Trinity College and the Lyme Academy of Art. She greatly enjoyed travel, particularly to see grandchildren when they lived overseas for many years. Marjorie and Tom lived in Glastonbury Connecticut, where they had many dear friends, from 1950 until the late 1990’s when she moved to Stonington Borough.

Marjorie is survived by her children: Thomas Arthur Bragdon, Jr. [Tucker]and wife Sandra Loveland Bragdon; Donald C. Paterson who was her caretaker for the past five years; Ann Louise Bragdon and husband Karim Alkadhi; and grandchildren: Selwa Alkadhi and family; Isam Karim Alkadhi, Rheim Bragdon Alkadhi; and Marjorie’s sister, Dorothy Jane Krauth Augustiniak and family.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Thomas Arthur Bragdon, Sr.; her parents; and her brother John Krauth.

There will be a private burial at the Green Cemetery in Glastonbury, Connecticut, details to be announced.
