DOYLESTOWN, PA: Mary P. (Raynes) Stenberg, 91, formerly of Gwynedd Valley and Abington, entered Heaven’s Gate on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013. Mary was the loving wife of the late Nyyrikki K. Stenberg who died on January 5, 2000. They were married for 52 years.
Mary was born on March 17, 1922 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, the daughter of the late Henry R. and Susan G. (George) Raynes. Mary grew up in Salem, MA, the oldest of seven children. She was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1942 and moved to the Philadelphia area upon her marriage. She enjoyed returning home for many of her class reunions and reuniting with her many friends. She had also once worked in the office of F.W. Woolworth for several years before her marriage.
Mary was an active member of the community, volunteering for many organizations including: Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, Jenkintown Day Nursery School Board, and the Fox Chase Cancer Center Women’s Board. Mary was an avid golfer; a long time member of LuLu Country Club, Manufacturers Country Club, and Innisbrook Golf Resort in Florida.
Mary is survived by her three children, Richard M. Stenberg and his wife, Ann of Norfolk, VA, Jon C. Stenberg and his wife, Donnetta of Buckingham, PA, and Rebecca J. Fisher and her husband, John of Buckingham, PA; her brother, William George Raynes and his wife, Laura of Salem; her sister, Joan (Raynes) Gilligan and her husband, Charles, of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by her four loving grandchildren, Jeremiah E. Stenberg, Elizabeth A. Fisher, Matthew F. Stenberg, and John M. Fisher. The greatest joys of Mary’s life were her four grandchildren, whom lovingly called her “Naniah.” In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Robert W. Raynes and Henry R. Raynes, and sisters, Carol (Raynes) Marler and Sally (Raynes) Dzikiewicz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14th at St. Peter Episcopal Church, 24 St. Peter St., Salem at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
